Express Entry categories in 2024

In 2023, IRCC implemented a new way of selecting candidates through Express Entry to better help meet specific economic goals. This selection is done by creating “categories” – in other words, by selecting immigrants with particular qualifications such as education, work experience, or language skills to support identified economic needs and priorities.

In 2024, IRCC is continuing with six current categories rounds of Express Entry candidates:

  1. French language proficiency
  2. Work experience in healthcare occupations
  3. Work experience in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) occupations
  4. Work experience in trade occupations
  5. Work experience in transport occupations
  6. Work experience in agriculture and agri-food occupations

Below is a complete list of Express Entry categories as of February 2024.

1. French language proficiency – To be eligible, you must have French-language test resultsthat show a minimum score of 7 in all 4 language abilities on the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens

2. Work experience in healthcare occupations – to be eligible, you must have accumulated, within the past 3 years, at least 6 months of full-time, continuous work experience (or an equal amount of part-time work experience) in a single occupation listed in the table below in Canada or abroad.
